New Delhi, Aug 25: Raksha Bandhan is expected to generate more than ₹30,000 crore in business across India this year, providing a significant boost to retailers, traders, manufacturers, artisans and small businesses.
Markets across the country are witnessing increased consumer activity ahead of the festival, with strong demand for rakhis, sweets, dry fruits, gifts, garments, decorative items and other festive products. The rise in spending is expected to support businesses across the retail and supply chain sectors.
The rakhi segment is estimated to account for around ₹25,000 crore, while Delhi’s rakhi trade is expected to contribute nearly ₹4,000 crore. The festive rush is creating additional opportunities for local manufacturers, women entrepreneurs, self-help groups, artisans and cottage industries.
Consumers are also showing interest in locally made and creatively designed rakhis, including products carrying themes of women’s empowerment, self-reliance and Indian craftsmanship. This trend is helping strengthen demand for domestic products and giving small producers greater access to the festive market.
The business impact of Raksha Bandhan extends beyond rakhis. Increased purchases of sweets, clothing, gifts, dry fruits and other household and festive items are expected to raise sales for neighbourhood stores, wholesalers and organised retailers.
The strong festive demand is expected to generate additional income opportunities for traders and small enterprises while supporting local production and distribution networks.
The projected ₹30,000-crore-plus trade reflects the growing economic importance of Raksha Bandhan and its role in driving consumer spending and strengthening India’s retail and small-business ecosystem.
